Creating a Common Culture among Multiple Acquisitions
The Challenge
A high technology company completed more than 32 domestic acquisitions and more than 10 additional global acquisitions over a four-year period. And then, the market took a dive. Clear understanding about the company's strategy at all levels was critical if the organization was to survive in the marketplace.
Our role
I worked with the executive team to develop a series of transformation
plans and to build and launch a process and roadmap to engage and motivate
employees at all levels in the organization. The process was called, "Creating
a New Direction,“ and included:
- Developing a leadership communication process, speeches, and kits
to link organization-wide strategy to goals
and objectives on business unit, location, and functional levels.
- Creating a feedback process to keep the CEO and his team informed about challenges, concerns, and successes so that the executives could actively reinforce and recognize progress in meaningful ways to increase motivation and progress against key goals.
Results
- Based on feedback mechanisms, clarity and focus for each group increased about company-wide strategies and how that group could most directly impact business success results.
- Morale, which had been very low, began to improve significantly at all levels throughout the organization.
